Located at Old Timber Yard on York Road in Wetherby, our story begins with enterprise, resilience, and a deep connection to the industrial heritage of Yorkshire.

The land was originally acquired in 1972 by William Brown, an entrepreneur who recognised the strategic importance of the site for industry and logistics. Over the following years, he transformed the yard into a thriving sawmill and timber operation, supplying pit props and pit rock to coal mines across the Yorkshire region. At its peak, the business supported the local mining economy while operating a substantial general haulage fleet of 4-6 trucks, making the yard an important hub for timber processing and transport.

As the coal mining industry declined and ultimately closed across Britain during the late 1980s and early 1990s, the business faced a defining moment. With William Brown stepping into retirement, the next generation of the family took the opportunity to reimagine the future of the site.

His three sons established Brown Brothers Properties, diversifying the family enterprise and adapting the historic timber yard to meet modern needs. Today, the site has evolved into a secure and well-managed storage facility, continuing its long tradition of supporting local businesses and the wider community.

While the industry around us has changed, the core values remain the same: hard work, reliability, and family stewardship. What began as a working timber yard serving Yorkshire’s mines has grown into a trusted local property and storage business, proudly maintaining the legacy of the Brown family while providing practical space solutions for today’s customers.
